Konniption Fit Signs On To Do SoundTrack For Caffiene Poisoned

Scattered Comics Studios sits down with Redford Michigan band Konniption Fit and talks about the band and their upcoming release of the Caffiene Poisoned soundtrack.

Q: How long has the band been together? How did it form?

A: Konniption Fit originally formed in 2004 with an entirely different line-up than its current incarnation. I’d been friends with and played in several bands with the original members of the band for a long time, and I’d always felt that these songs needed to be heard and given a chance. We played the Detroit music scene for about 6 months, but then went on hiatus for a while, due to different personal events happening in all of our lives.

We reformed in 2007, and from that point went full steam ahead, playing regionally in the Midwest as often as possible to get our name out there and to play in front of as many people as possible. We’ve had a few line-up changes since then, and recently have hired a new female drummer.

We couldn’t be more excited! She adds a completely different element to the band is an amazing musician! Being a three-piece band and having a female drummer and female bassist involved, technically makes us a male-fronted band!

How funny is that? I’m loving it!

Q: In what way were you inspired in creating this song for the CAFFEINE POISONED soundtrack? How do you feel about how it came out?

A: When I originally read about Caffeine Poisoned, before I’d even had the chance to read it, I was instantly enthralled and felt a connection with the entire concept! Konniption Fit is a very DIY (Do It Yourself) band right now, so I spend many many hours working on everything from songwriting to booking shows, promotion, design…you name it. Caffeine is one of my best friends!

I’m a big fan of energy drinks & coffee, and have spent many late nights working on band projects. The idea and concepts of the comic, I instantly felt connected to. As for the song, I’m really pleased with how it’s coming out.

We really wanted to write something that captures the feel of the comic, and something that you could have on while you’re reading it. Music that fits the idea of a comic book soundtrack. I’m so excited to be a part of this!

Q. How many cd’s have you recorded and what are the titles and where can we buy them?

A: We’ve currently recorded 2 CD’s. Our first EP, “Caricatures”, has sold out and is now out of print. Our new full-length CD, “Ballistic” was just released in February 2010. MP3’s are available on Apple iTunes, Amazon.com, Napster, and both physical CD’s and MP3’s are available at CDBaby.com.

Q: Are you fans of comics, if so what do you like reading and why?

I definitely have had moments in my life where I’ve read a lot of comics. I’ve always been a fan of Spiderman; I’d say that’s one of my favorites… I always liked how Spidey had this witty, clever sense of humor.

He wasn’t completely indestructible like Superman, which I’ve always thought made him a bit easier to relate to. He also had some great villains, and also a normal life filled with things I could relate to.

I know Amber is a huge Spawn fan as well.

Q: Do you read Caffiene Poisoned?

A: Oh absolutely!! I devoured it once I had a chance to get my hands on it!

Q: How do you guys know Jason Dube?

A: Meeting Jason Dube was like winning the lottery!

We needed some artwork done for our first EP, and I had some ideas of the style I was looking for. I did some online searches for anime artists for hire and his name popped up.

I checked out his entire website and wrote him immediately, his style was better than what I had been looking for, and working with him has always been an amazing experience.

The first EP artwork was so great that once we started work on our full-length CD, I contacted him again. I feel extremely lucky to have had the chance to work with someone so talented with such an amazing work ethic.

He’s always right on top of things! He’s a creative genius and total professional, which in the creative field, is a rare find!

Q: We hear that you are also instrumental in locating additional bands to add to the soundtrack. Who else should the fans be expecting to hear on this CD?

To date, there’s one band in particular that I’ve been talking with about this project, by the name of “Johnny Roastbeef”. They’re a fun, upbeat Punk band from Detroit, MI with amazing songwriting and really catchy tunes.

I’ve been extremely selective in who I’ve brought to the table for Jason to listen to. I believe his project deserves the best and most fitting bands we can find! There’s a few others I’ve scouted out, but right now Johnny Roastbeef are the first to commit to the project.

Q: I heard Coffin Case is involved, What is their involvement with the band?

A: Coffin Case endorses the band with their products. We get artist prices which are almost at cost.

They have us up on their website and occasionally will post our flyers for really big shows. In return, we promote them at all of our shows and use their gear pretty exclusively.

Q: Who’s your favorite character in the comic series?

A: That’s a tough question! There’s some really great characters! I’d say my favorite is Brittany though. She’s this small little bundle of dynamite and attitude! She’s awesome!

Q: If your dreams materialized in this world, what would they be?

A: I imagine it’d be some weird mix of Looney Tunes meets the grandiose Rockstar lifestyle!

Q: Any last words, plugs, shout outs, or wise sage words you’d like to leave us with?

A: If things seem strange or out of place, watch out, you may just be Caffiene Poisoned!
