“Monsters” is a series of new young readers monster books, written by Miss Misery, and Publisher Black Bed Sheets. In the vein of “Goosebumps” books, these new “Monster” books promise to put a fun scare into the kids reading them.
We had a chance to speak to Creator and Scream Queen Miss Misery gives us some insight into Monsters series.
Q: Why did you decide to do story books for younger audiences?
MISS MISERY: When I was younger I was obsessed with goosebumps. I always wanted to start my own type of series like that and recently decided to. I’ve been writing since I was young so I have tons of stories and love creating monsters. I also decided to call my book series Monsters because when I was younger my dad use to wake me up late Saturday nights to watch a tv series called Monsters. It was my favorite show.
Q: What do you find the most challenging about writing children’s books from your other horror material?
MISS MISERY: When I first started writing these books and going through my head the type of stories I want to tell, I think my biggest challenge was making sure they were stories that younger children would want to read. I always strive to do my best and with these books I just want them to be enjoyable for kids to read and want to keep reading.
MISS MISERY: Bad things happen to mean kids, that’s something I did write into the Mr Torture book. As far as lessons or hidden messages, I just want to write good stories that children can enjoy.
Q: What age group do you recommend these books for?
MISS MISERY: They are good for kids 8 and up basically. I have had a couple of adults tell me the love them, which I think is really cool.
Q: You use Scattered Studios to create your book covers (artwork by Jason Dube, colors by Andy Tui). Any comments about their work?
MISS MISERY: Oh I love Scattered Studios, both Jason and Andy have been phenomenal. They know exactly how to bring my book covers to life. I have been extremely happy with their work. Cannot wait to do more with them.
Q: What kinds of monsters can we look forward to?
MISS MISERY: From closet monsters to witches, vampires to werewolves. There’s an array of monsters through this book series. I really enjoy creating these monsters that a younger crowd can read. Q: Where can you buy your books?
MISS MISERY: If you do a search for my books, you’ll find a number of outlets where you can purchase them. Also Amazon or search for them on the Barnes and Noble website to order them.
